Prerequisites: IT basics, meaning networking (IP addresses, subnets, DNS) and some experience in administration or programming. You don't need to know AWS, the first module covers the basics. For non-technical people, AWS Introduction is the better fit.

Specialist or Introduction?

Specialist is two days of building in AWS yourself: a VPC network, EC2 instances, a Lambda backend, a site on S3 and CloudFront, a database and infrastructure in CloudFormation. It's for admins, architects and developers who'll work in AWS every day. AWS Introduction is one day, and by the end you understand the services, security and costs. That one is for people who make decisions about the cloud or work alongside it.

You get an AWS account and environment for the course. Nothing to install on your machine.

Common questions

  1. Do I need to know AWS?

    No, but IT basics help: networking, systems, programming. The first module covers the cloud and AWS global infrastructure, then we move on to the labs.

  2. What are the labs like?

    There are eight. Everyone works on a real AWS account, set up for the duration of the training. You'll build a VPC network, a highly available application with Auto Scaling and a load balancer, a serverless backend on Lambda, a static site on S3 with CloudFront and infrastructure in CloudFormation, among other things.

  3. Does it prepare me for AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate?

    The programme covers services that come up in that exam: IAM, VPC, EC2, Auto Scaling, S3, RDS, DynamoDB, CloudWatch and CloudFormation. You'll still need to study for the exam itself, but after two days of labs you'll have hands-on practice with those services.

  4. How is it different from AWS Introduction?

    AWS Introduction is one day and explains AWS to people outside IT as well. Specialist is two days and eight labs. If your team will build and run systems on AWS, choose Specialist.

  5. Online or on site?

    Either, with the same programme and the same labs. Online sessions are live. On site, I come to your company.

  6. Can you adapt the programme to our team?

    Yes. Before the training we talk about what your team works with. I can change the balance between modules, for example more networking for admins or more serverless for developers.
